What's Hot This Summer

Rubik Cube Fashion

What comes to your mind when I mention the words “Rubik cube?” Blocky? Bright colors? Exactly! That's the way to go for this years Spring fashion. Just flip through InStyle and Elle, and you’ll see clothes with colorful block designs and bold color accessories everywhere. LV’s, YSL’s, Missoni’s fashion shows all displayed this vibrant theme in their spring collections. Luckily, it’s not that hard to be fashionable with our little college student budgets. You can find many affordable clothes and jewelries at stores like Forever 21 and H&M. Are you ready to rock this “Rubik cube” fashion?

On the Road

Gotta love flat tires in towns you are not familiar with. Listen college students, you need AAA! If you do not have triple AAA, ask your parents, or find a way to afford it! If you are stranded in the middle knowhere, like I was this weekend, you will be happy to have AAA!  I am a Liberty University student driving home from Easter Break. It is a 3 hour drive and I was about 2.5 hours into the trip when I decided to stop at a Liberty gas station in Lovingston,Va to use the restroom. Right when I pulled into the parking lot, I parked and a gentlemen put down his window and informed me that I had a flat tire. When I say flat tire, I mean FLAT TIRE! It was destroyed. I tried pumping air! It wouldn’t hold any. Good thing I stopped. I took my AAA card out of my wallet and called them for a tow truck to take me (and my car) to a shop, where they replaced my tire. So college students, learn from my lesson! Check your tires before you leave. Get AAA and drive safely!

"It's a Long Trip Alone"

Ever wonder what  goes on in the car of a college student when they have a six hour drive alone? Wonder no longer because I am going to let you in on my secret driving tips that help me stay awake and pass time quickly.  So sit back, read closely, and don't laugh too much because you know you do the same.

Step One (Limit the Liquid)
I personally hate drinking anything before I travel because I know it means a pit stop somewhere along the way and a stop is extra time. Although I love coffee, this definitely isn't my first choice. So what do I grab when I am about to hit the road after filling up on gas if it isn't a drink? My secret driving snack is trail mix and sadly, it is NOT the healthy kind. I grab the chocolate mix because after about hour three I am in need of a sugar fix.  If a coffee is a necessity, however, I always grab a frozen latte because this adds some sugar and doesn't usually require a stop along the road.

Step Two
Once I hit the road, music is a must. Although a lot of the music I like is more of a "soothing" and slow mix, I  make sure to have some upbeat songs ready to blare if I find myself drifting off. So what artists did I sing at the top of my lungs to this last trip home? Heres a snip from my playlist. Also, be sure to sing at the top of your lungs at red lights, this will not only wake you up, but entertain the people beside you.

City and Colour - Dallas Green 's voice is soothing and his music style is "chill" so I recommend this for the first leg of your trip

A Rocket to the Moon - Weird name? Yes! Upbeat music? Definitely. It is hard to believe that they got their start in vocalist and guitarist, Nick Santino’s bedroom

Jack Johnson - A smooth voice like Jack's and acoustic guitar may help you relax when you are feeling a bit tense in traffic.

Sherwood - Great music and awesome vocal harmony. Sing aloud and entertain your fellow travelers.

If you'd like to know more of whats on my iPod let me know, I'd love to share it with you!

Final Step
Keep your eyes on the road, watch out for cops, and follow the speed limit. I have learned this the hard way...driving fast won't always save you time. It takes a good 30 minutes to get a ticket, and the phone call home isn't always the best.

Safe Travels to all as Summer arrives and trips home and to the beach are inevitable!

Sweet, Simple, and So Worth Your Time

Hey Everyone,

So, your in your dorm room and you need to be cramming for those finals or writing that 15 page paper thats due but your really in the mood for something sweet. Well, check out this simple cake in a mug video. This is great recipe that you can make right in the comfort of your own dorm (if you have a microwave of course). Check it out and enjoy !

Stress Stress and More Stress

 Stress!

It’s the end of the year guys! Hang in there and you will do great! The key is to not procrastinate, make sure to prioritize, avoid all-nighters at all costs, and make sure you are eating nutritionally.
Here are some tips:
1.     When you know you have a lot of finals to study for, spread out your study time and don’t try to get all your studying done in one day. Surely your finals aren’t all on the same day therefore you have time to study for all of your finals. Don’t think to yourself, oh I have plenty of time, because that time will most likely run out and you will be in a panic. Just don’t procrastinate!
2.     I know when finals are just around the corner, you want to get as much time in with your friends and even though the social aspect of college is important, school is the most important. Therefore, when it comes to finals, prioritize them. Study and then reward yourself with an outing with your friends.
3.     All-nighters sometimes seem like the last resort, but most all-nighters are the results of the previous tips. All-nighters will only cause more stress and lead to you being a “grouch” for the day (s) of exams. Basic advice, avoid them. Period.
4.     Nutrition can be the least of your worries during finals, but a trend that comes with finals week is coffee or anything that will give you energy. This is really bad for you. Think healthy when preparing to study. Buy healthy snacks like celery or some type of fruit. This gives you more energy where coffee will eventually make you crash. Just be healthy!
I hope this helps you with preparing for your finals! Good luck and hang in there!

Acceptance Letters

Hello prospective students!

So I just wanted to take a moment to talk to you about the process of receiving acceptance letters.

Most of you are high school seniors. You have that perfect school chosen in your mind – maybe it has the best program for you major, maybe it’s close to home, or really far from home. Maybe your boyfriend or best friend is going there. Either way, you’ve already chosen in your mind. This is where being accepted/rejected is the most critical and emotional experience of college thus far.

It’s beyond exciting when you get accepted to your “dream school;” it is thrilling and puts you in a hopeful mood for your future. Well, what happens when you do not get accepted? Does your world come crashing down?

I just want to encourage you to remain positive through all of it. When I was a senior in high school, I had an art school I was dead set on. On Christmas Eve of all days, I received my rejection letter to their art program. I couldn’t understand. I had gotten accepted to other schools I applied to, but how did that compare?

I ended up choosing another school, one I had been accepted to, but had not hoped for. It ended up being the best decision of my 20-year old life. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be where I am. Everything works itself out for the better.

So, once again, stay positive. If you get accepted – celebrate! If not, remember that life will move on, and that everything happens for a reason.
